Important
- Scouting as an extracurricular is one of the most affordable. Troop 261 pricing is medium compared to area Troops.
- The Troop is a nonprofit organization. All moneys collected flow back to the scouts as awards and program costs.
- Dues pay for awards. A scout that is not current with their dues WILL NOT receive awards at Troop meetings.
- Scouting families are encouraged to pay dues for a year in full. Payments can be made on our Troop Store. Paying on time is the family’s responsibility. If you fall in arrears, see #2.
Summary
Costs include three things: dues, uniforms, book, and camping. The informal uniform shirt (dri-fit t-shirt) is included with your dues at no additional cost.
The uniform and book costs are a 1x cost. Campouts are optional, economical, and enriching.
Campouts cost between $8 – $30 per person depending on the site and activities and includes food. On most campouts, meals and snacks are covered from Friday night ‘Cracker Barrel’ snack through Sunday morning breakfast.
The Troop Store handles payments and provides easier access to events and dues.
Dues
Troop 261 charges membership dues per school year. Dues pay for patches, pins, awards, Troop swag, special events, adult volunteer background checks, and a small Troop 261 Campership program. Dues also pay for group insurance for meeting and camping activities, BSA campsites, 6 of which are within the Tampa Bay area, software and website services, training, and more.
Uniform & Book
Troop 261 requires a uniform shirt. The uniform is an important part of making the program work for your Scout. Uniforms typically only need to be purchased once over a scout’s entire career at about $50.
Scouts will need a new book for their Scouting career. The book cost is about $20 and can be bought with a $10 book cover to protect your investment.
